History

Aussie Aid for Africa was established in 2007 by Perth man Pat Macpherson.

After volunteering at St Lucia’s orphanage in Arusha in 2006, Pat recognised the need for an integrated facility providing housing, education, physical and mental health care in a stable environment.

Returning to Australia, Pat developed the Tumaini Village concept, a place where orphaned children could be cared for, nurtured and empowered to take active responsibility for their future.

Aussie Aid for Africa was established to purchase land in Arusha and build the orphanage and school.

The name ‘Tumaini’, meaning ‘Hope’ in Swahili, was chosen for the village.  In March 2007, building of the Tumaini for Africa Children’s Village began.

There are now 24 children under AA4A’s care and this number will increase each year.
